A Note To Our Patients About Walk-in Hour

Both offices, Monday-Friday, 8:00 - 9:00 am

We instituted walk-in hour on weekday mornings in order for us to quickly help children who had a sudden illness. We intended for a walk-in hour which would improve patient care and provide a service, especially to many parents who are juggling parenthood as well as busy schedules. As the word spread about this wonderful service, the number of patients coming in for walk-in hour dramatically increased.

Due to the overwhelming numbers of children who are being helped during our walk-in hour, we feel the need to provide some practical guidelines for parents looking at using the service. These guidelines will allow walk-in patients to be assisted promptly. The guidelines will also allow the physicians to be able to begin seeing their scheduled patients on time. These guidelines are:

1. Children with complicated medical problems such as heart, lung, or kidney problems, transplant recipients or malignancy are better served by scheduling an appointment. The time necessary to take proper care of these children is beyond the scope of our walk-in hour.
2. Young infants less than 2 months of age who are ill should be seen by a physician at a regularly-scheduled time, not during walk-in hour. Please know that we are able to schedule these young infants promptly; however, we feel that it is best for the young infants to be seen when adequate time is available as well as avoiding exposing these young infants to a waiting room full of sick children.
3. If your child has a chronic medical complaint lasting more than 2 weeks, an appointment with the child's primary physician is required. Walk-in hour is not intended for complicated, long-term needs.
4. Our scheduled appointments begin promptly at 9am. At this time we are unable to accept walk-in patients who try to check in after 9am.
